TheShell.com began in 1994 as doxx.net, Barrett Lyon's high school project. It was a transition from the BBS world and was turned into a real business by Barrett and Peter Avalos in 1996 as they signed their partnership agreement in Washington DC at the Jefferson Memorial. The idea was to create a business that can continue to afford the cost of on-going expanded operations. At it's peek TheShell.com represented a large self-operated Alpha processor based network and was the home to thousands of Internet users. Over time Barrett and Peter moved on to their own path in business and TheShell.com was put on the back burner and is still operated as a side project jointly by Barrett and Peter.
Currently TheShell.com sits on the most state-of-the-art DDoS filtered multi-gigabit network operated by Prolexic Technologies, Inc.
